ceud mìle fàilte – a hundred, thousand welcomes

Paths carved by animals who have no sense of time, as opposed to humans who are driven by optimising their time.

Ceud mìle fàilte is the title of Susannah Rose’s new research-led project, commissioned by Cultural Documents.

The aim of the project is to open dialogues about access to the territories of west Scotland.

Susannah Rose lives and works in mid Argyll; combining her practices of orienteering, running, drawing and painting, she will undertake a series of actions to start to define her psychological, emotional and physical encounters when traversing along ancient routes such as drover’s roads, in coastal areas.

Ceud mìle fàilte is one in a group of projects which for part of the programme-theme ‘Ecotone – Towards the Water’: ecotone is the name for a zone which facilitates transition from one state to another: in ecological terms, it is the coast, between the ocean and inland. We have chosen this title as, literally, it describes the ecological area we wish our ‘audience’ to think about, and also, because it is a metaphor for the interdisciplinary nature of our work.

Please see artist Susannah Rose’s bio page for this new project which is currently in development.
