Utställningen The Breadboy of Herculaneum av Anna Bokström och Nina Bacos utforskar aspekter av antropocen, den nuvarande geologiska epoken som kännetecknas av människans omfattande påverkan på jorden. Bilderna i utställningen är fotograferade på olika ställen i Europa. Titeln – hänvisar till kvarlevorna av ett barn som dog i ett bageri under Vesuvius vulkanutbrott år 79 e.kr och på det vardagliga lugn som föregick katastrofen.
Utställningen är en lågmäld gestaltning av kulturerna runt klimatkrisen snarare än en dokumentation av katastrofen. En liten flicka vid en sjö, gripanden av aktivister, gaslobbyister på COP24 och sniglar på gräs. Även saker från ett dödsbo finns med. Tillsammans visar de hur det vardagliga och familjära står sida vid sida med politiskt beslutsfattande.
Anna Bokström är konstnär, förläggare, klimataktivist och curator baserad i Malmö. Hennes arbete kretsar kring gemenskap, sociala strukturer och klimatkrisens påverkan och uttrycks i video, skulptur och teckning.
Nina Bacos är konstnär, förläggare och curator baserad i Glasgow, där hon också har en doktorsexamen (PhD) från Glasgow School of Art. Hon arbetar främst med fotografi men även med rörlig bild, installation, publicering och text, med fokus på klimatförändringarnas konsekvenser sedan 2015.
Deras samarbete började 2013 och omfattar publicering, curatoriell verksamhet samt projektet The Breadboy of Herculaneum.

The exhibition The Breadboy of Herculaneum by Anna Bokström and Nina Bacos explores aspects of the Anthropocene, the current geological epoch characterised by the extensive impact of humans on the Earth.
The images in the exhibition are photographed in various locations in Europe.
The title refers to the everyday calm that preceded the disaster of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and the remains of a child who died in a bakery during the eruption.
The exhibition is a gathering of images to build up visual narratives unravelling the complexities involved in thinking about and understanding The Anthropocene and climate crisis; arrests of activists, a little girl by a lake, gas lobbyists at COP24 and snails on grass amongst many others. Items from the estate of two deceased people are included as together they show how the everyday and familiar stand side by side with political decision-making in the processes of global production/consumption/supply/demand that we have created.
Anna Bokström is an artist, publisher, climate activist and curator based in Malmö.
Anna’s work revolves around community, social structures and the impact of the climate crisis and is expressed in video, sculpture and drawing.
Nina Bacos is an artist, publisher and curator based in Glasgow, where she also holds a PhD from the Glasgow School of Art.
Nina works primarily with photography but also with moving images, installations, publishing and text, focusing on the consequences of climate change since 2015.
The collaboration which we now call The Breadboy of Herculaneum began in 2018 when Cultural Documents asked the artists to take a collaboratove approach to making work which would reify, render tangible and represent the local and global aspects that link agrarian life, mass production and global consumption.
