exhibition – The Bread Boy of Herculaneum

This exhibition is another presentation in the long-duration series titled ‘The Bread Boy of Herculaneum‘ commissioned by Cultural Documents and made by artists Anna Bokström and Nina Bacos to explore climate change and future planetary well-being.

The work is made in collaboration with people and organisations in rural communities in Sweden, Scotland and Italy. The exhibition was accompanied by talks given by representatives from local community groups and by daily climate conversations during the first two weeks of the show (after this they will be organised, according to demand).

The conversations followed the structure and patterns laid out by The Scottish Communities Climate Action Network climate facilitation and the International Transition movement; they aimed to facilitate a space to speak about the crisis and what one as an individual may want to do to make a transition from the current trajectory possible and also to identify community interest in starting or working within existing transition practice in Dunoon and Cowal.

The artists are collaborating with Bullwood Nature Trail, Grow Food Dunoon and individuals in Dunoon. Throughout the exhibition, talks led by local community activists and representatives of the local collaborators explored the development of community cooperative actions.

Commissioned by Cultural Documents, made in collaboration with Bergkvara Kulturmagasin and Casa Pleiadi and with funding from Cultural Documents and Creative Scotland.
